Guatemala (2)

We spent an entire day bussing from Guatemala City to Lake Peten Itza. AUGH!

The above was our lovely lunch stop on the water. Note the silly dingy in the third photo.

My lunch was delicious!!

On the road to Lake Peten Itza, we were forced to pull over, disembark the bus and hang around until a guard walked through our bus.

I pretended to take Connie’s photo in order to photograph the young boy with an uzi. Scary!!

We apparently passed, were allowed to board the bus and we were on our way.

We arrived at our hotel so late that evening, I hadn’t realized we were right on a lake. Beautiful.

It was this morning I threw up instead of going to breakfast. (I HATE that!!!!!)

I didn’t want to miss the highlight of the trip, so I joined the group and bussed to Tikal to see the ruins.

It was a mile walk into the jungle and then a couple miles among the ruins.

Call me jaded, but we saw the same Kudamundi animals and the same type of ruins that I saw in Mexico.

I was miserable and weak, but carried on. I even climbed Ruin #4 all the way to the top for a wonderful view.

Kudamundi

Wonderful trees!

Note the cute little frog in the bathroom.

Bathrooms had lots to be desired. Often without toilet paper or paper towels. Sometimes without toilet seats!

Because of their poor sewer systems, toilet paper is to be deposited into the waste baskets in each stall.

It’s so, so nice to be back at home in the good ‘ole USA, when you can drop your TP into the toilet never to deal with it again!!

We had fantastic weather the entire trip!!

One of these horrid little Kudamundi animals ran up to a woman and grabbed her bag of cheetoes and ran off with it, not before scratching the hell out of the woman’s leg. And there he is, eating the entire bag of snacks.

How could I feel so sick on this day but look so GOOD?

Monkey in the palm tree.

More ruins.

Hiking in the jungle is a constant challenge!!

So glad to have survived this day. Why did I get sick? Altitude Sickness? Tainted food/water? Dehydration? Someone suggested ALL THREE!! We’ll never know.

I came back to the hotel, slept on the balcony while the sun shone and then inside to my bed for a total of 15 hours . I was MUCH better the next day.

Happy travels.
