We stayed in an Airb&b which was an old building that was nicely updated to rent out. I always get the heebie-jeebies because I know what is underneath. Give me a brand new house any day.
The views were beautiful and the friends were a blast to spend time with.

As happened in the Florida Everglades from 1890 to 1910, fancy rich women simply had to have bird feathers for their hats, which led to the extinction of many birds. This also happened to the puffins in Maine; They were gone from the state by the the 1880’s
In 1973, Stephen W. Kress of the Audubon Society started Project Puffin, an effort to restore seabird colonies to the southern Maine area. Atlantic puffins from Newfoundland and terns were reintroduced to the island. Puffins had not been spotted on the island since 1885. Biologists from other countries joined the society to help coax the birds back to Maine’s islands and control the population of predators. Techniques used for restoring the birds, such as playing recordings of puffin calls, and wooden puffin decoys were mostly effective, although it took more than six years to know the experiment was successful.

Yes Peggy’s Cove famous lighthouse outside of Halifax. Area also where Swiss Air 111 went down in the water years ago. A nice memorial has been placed near Peggy’s Cove.
Portland is where I bought my. Wedding dress many years ago at Porteous department store. It was very expensive back then ( I was living in Saint John New Brunswick so only about 5 hour drive.)
We have puffins on Cape Breton Island which we have been to see!!
We also have lobster rolls!!!

Heading on 11 night river cruise from Venice to Bucharest
in August. With 2 nights ahead in Venice but will leave from Bucharest as scheduled as we have been there a few years ago Nice to find a river cruise heading east that is longer than 7 days !!!
It is so good to hear from you!. I’ve got a gate1 River Cruise from budapest to Bucharest next May. I am slowing down enough that I look forward to cruises rather than bus rides across countries. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
