Rwanda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Treks (6)

Coming down the mountain was harder than going up. I learned to dig the back of my heel into the ground in front of me to get a good footing before I took my next step. Holding on to my Porter’s hand for the first half down the mountain but my osteoarthritic wrist hurt and I was able to go down on my own the last half.

We were very appreciative of our Porters and again it cost us an arm and a leg in tips.

Tom and Sue chose not to go up the mountain but they still saw all the chimps crossing the road.

We found some kids and Sue is willing to give up her chocolate-covered pretzels to them. They were pretty happy and very cute.

Remember the scarf I told you to note? Well the rule of the Jungle is anything that goes in must come out. And I broke the rule. Once I arrived on the road I realized my scarf was missing.

When the chimp started coming around and going up the trees I folded up my scarf and used it as a pillow to sit on a log trying to avoid any ants I may encounter. When it was time to go I was so excited to leave that my scarf remained.

Either some chimp is wearing it as in this photo or it is part of their nest for the evening. LOL.

And of course, ai added this scarf to this monkey.

We encountered a wedding and they were all very happy.

THEY WERE SO HAPPY.

Traffic was at a dead stop and after some investigation Brian came back to tell us it’s going to be at least 30 minutes. Of course Tom and I scouted out the area, saw that there was an entire local bus full of people behind us, so we just opened the car door to use as a shield and peed behind the door. Jane was our look out.

And yes you see on the road a man carrying an Uzi. I always like to assume it’s for my protection; not there to shoot me.

While Tom and I were peeing, jane and Sue went up to the front of the line to see what Brian was up to. When they returned, they were a little lighter of cash but the traffic began to move.

Apparently, a semi driver got himself wedged across the road and he was so long he couldn’t go forward because the mountain was there and he couldn’t back up because there was a giant pile of boulders. When Jane and Sue arrived two guys were trying to move the huge pile of rocks.

Sue pulled out her rwandan money and suggested to a group of uniformed men that they may want to help move the boulders for beer money. They all jumped in to help and moved the entire pile of rocks in a short time.

Just a bunch of monkeys hanging out on the side of the road.

Running monkeys!

Interesting bathroom signs.

Boredom. These are my feet on the ceiling while driving for hours and hours and hours to our hotel room.

Get ready for a crazy ride. Brian really did not drive this way. He was the slowest driver through curvy mountain roads that I have ever had. I was so happy.

I love African art!!
