Rwanda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Treks (5)

There are no pictures of me following Jane up this mountain. The mountain was a 45° angle covered in leaves and vines, soft areas in one spot and secure footing in another.

Started out with my heavy walking stick by myself. But eventually gave up and took the hand of my porter as he helped pull me up the mountain.

I had no idea how far we had to go, the hike was daunting. But before I was puffing, we were told to be quiet because the chimpanzees were coming.

The gorillas make their nest every night on the ground, chimps make their new nests every night in the trees. The Trackers had been following them at dusk the night before to know where they settled. So when we arrived in the morning our guide knew at what point in the road we were to begin climbing.

There was a 4 foot wall we were shoved up before we started the climb.

As I said … No photos since I barely made it up alive without pulling out my camera and trying to video anything.

A commotion coming from up the mountain so this guy decided to go check it out; so he quickly slid down and went back up the mountain to see what was what.

Apparently she’s decided to go down the mountain and didn’t care whether we were sitting there or not.

The Trackers and guides in their green outfits are so common to these chimps that once they see the green outfit they know anybody else with them (including a big blonde woman who looks not a stitch like them) are not a threat.

Several of them ran past us with their mouth full of some kind of fig heading down the mountain.

Here’s the 4 foot wall we had to scale.
